Katharine McPhee
For more
information on Katharine McPhee, visit the Katharine McPhee website, where
you will find photographs and much more information. Katharine McPhee
is an amazingly popular singer and thespian who started it all on
American Idol. Her career has only spanned a few years, but much more is
expected from this multi-faceted woman.
Katherine McPhee came into the world on March 25, 1984. Her birthplace
was Los Angeles, California, where her mother was a successful vocal
trainer and her father was a television producer. McPhee started acting
while in high school and moved on to the Boston Conservatory where she
honed her vocal skills. She abandoned the college dream to try and make
it in Hollywood, and was rejected for 98% of the parts she tried out
for. It was not until she auditioned for American Idol in 2006 that
things began to change. Her audition was in San Francisco, and she sang
a Billie Holiday song called God Bless the Child. It got excellent
ratings from Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell. However, she
did not win the first prize. This was really not a great loss,
considering the fact that many talented individuals have lost on the
show but have become more famous than the actual winners.
In the music world, McPhee's first single of Somewhere Over the Rainbow
was introduced a few days later and peaked at position 12 on the
Billboard Hot 100. It became the second highest best selling single of
the year, and McPhee was subsequently selected to open for Andrea
Bocelli during his US tour. When McPhee's self-titled first album was
put on store shelves, it immediately debuted at the number 2 position on
the Billboard 200 chart, selling 116,000 copies in only its initial week
of release.
After her initial success in music, McPhee started to make herself a
film career, making her major acting debut in a movie entitled The House
Bunny. She has much more coming and will most likely be an extremely
busy woman during the coming years. Watch for her in many upcoming
productions. She will most likely surprise and amaze us with her talent.
